company, but formed
by experienced and creative professionals. Our company is over four
years old; our team has grown quickly and is currently 24 members
strong, roughly divided 50/50 amongst developers and artists.
The company begins in 2003, when Claudio Pinto was
enthused by his son Daniel to start a game development studio. He had
almost 20 years of experience in software development in the enterprise
applications space as co-founder of Exactus Software, an ERP software
and services company with over 500 customers in 12 countries in the
Latin American region. And he had gradually grown very interested in
the game industry, particularly serious games and their applications in
education.
After lots of research and some proof of concept
projects, he realized that there are a lot of young and talented
engineers and artists with interests in this field in Costa Rica. As
the team grew and we started to work on more ambitious projects, it
became clear in 2004 that it was feasible to enter the gaming software
industry to offer services and develop our own titles.
That is when we founded Fair Play Labs, and we initially
focused primarily on the development of a powerful set of tools and an
Action Adventure title for kids 8 thru 80 years old on the Nintendo
Game Boy Advance and DS called “Ecovolution”, with an ecological theme.
We have also been working on the online version of the
As Majesty strategy game, and more recently on Rushville – an
extensible collection of mini-games for the Apple iPhone and iPod
Touch, along with the outsourcing services that we offer to our
customers in U.S.A.
Fair Play Labs was recently accepted into the Sony
Computer Entertainment America Inc. Incubation Program for developers
in Latin America, as a first step towards becoming a PSP Licensed
Developer.
